Optima Baron Recumbent Kilometer Race

Video of myself doing the One Kilometer Standing Start event at the 333 meter Kenosha Velodrome 7/08/2007. My time = 1:20.56 for 1000 meters. Average Speed = 27.77 mph/44.69 kph. My best on an upight bike is 1:15.15, but in time I know I will beat this with my recumbent. You feel so much faster on a recumbent versus an upright bike. It is a lot of fun. This was my second day racing my Optima Baron, as you can see from my wobble at the start. I modified the Baron with a larger 451 front wheel for hopefully lower rolling resistance. It also has a steel front fork with disk brake mount. I used regular road caliper brakes, and used only my 62 tooth chainring with a 11-34 rear cassette during the run. Due to the set up of the timing equipment, we had to swing wide on laps 1 and 2 to avoid the timing strip as we crossed the start/finish line. Approximate Lap by Lap Results from video analysis: Start Race @ 5.5 secs End Lap 1 @ 36 secs, lap 1 = 30.5 sec = 24.4 mph End Lap 2 @ 60 secs, lap 2 = 24 sec = 31.0 mph End Lap 3 @ 86 secs, lap 3 = 26 sec = 28.6 mph Thanks to John Liam for filming this.
